Take a look at my old green door if you see a light within
Then come around people call no more
I'm an old grey man and I'm wearing thin
Rescue me from my golden days before I reach the other side
Born and raised in the usual way but there's no way back
When they know who you are
Met his wife raised a family got divorced at thirty two
The birds have flown and the seasons change
On his lonely house with its empty rooms
He sits alone by the fireside, the Winter months are cruel
And focused on his TV guide it's the only thing that he warms to
But he fought upon the sea my friends
He fought for the lives of you and me
Worked thirty years but now he 'ain't even got tomorrow
Is there a message for me?
Must be a message for me
You'll find your goal in the sky
But make sure you think that it's no dream
'Cos I know how you told her
That your life was so much younger inside those scenes
Before your soul can rise they gotta celebrate the life of you
So turn over twenty times cos there's nothing more to do
But that's okay yeah it's okay
And in the Spring his Son calls round but the visit's over due
He steps over some bills on the ground
It's an awful fact but a simple clue
He died alone by the fireside the Winter months were cruel
Now all that's left is the guilt inside
And to sell the house and collect the will
But he fought upon the sea my friends
He fought for the lives of you and me
Worked thirty years but now he 'ain't even got tomorrow
Is there a message for me?
Must be a message for me
is there a message for me?
Must be a message for me

Thank You

Thank you for washing my tears away
For seeing past yesterday
For making me whole
Thank you for giving me everything
Making me smile again
For making me whole
My life has changed from how it used to be
I thought that she'd be mine eternally
But she sailed away into the setting sun
And left me feeling like I can't go on
So I thank you for washing my tears away
For seeing past yesterday
For making me whole
Well I thank you for giving me everything
Making me smile again
You're making me whole
I've stopped believing she'll come back one day
My mind was made up when you came my way
My heart is heeling and the pain has gone
You gave me courage and you made me strong
So I thank you for washing my tears away
For seeing past yesterday
For making me whole
Well I thank you for giving me everything
Making me smile again
You're making me whole
You're giving me everything, You're making me smile again
Keep giving me everything
Little by little you're making me whole

Saturday
04:21
|
|
||
I never thought I'd lay broken flowers on the grave
Where our love now lies
But I failed to see the reasons
Why the sunlight was a fading from your smile
You grew strong and I grew weak
I was lost and you were free
As your train rolled out
You waved to me and smiled
As a tear started flowing from my eyes
On that Saturday
Oh that Saturday
The day you went away
Oh that Saturday
It was just the day before you came around to let me know
This would be our last night
I tried to make you feel so special
Persuade you girl to give me one more try
So I held you in my arms
We made love the whole night long
As the chorus rose
If I could've stopped the day from dawning
I could've saved you girl from walking out my life
On that Saturday
Oh that Saturday
The day you went away
Oh that Saturday
There was a madness in your eyes
A beauty in your smile
And there was something in the wind
You'd left undone
Was it so hard for you to stay
You had to change and run away
And now I hope to God
That you don't find no-one
You see our lives have just begun
And you and I are always one
On that Saturday
Oh that Saturday
The day you went away
Oh that Saturday
And I'm missing you
I'm missing you
I'm missing you........

I Believed In You
03:34
|
|
||
I believed in innocence, honesty and sentiments
In destiny and miracles
And I believed in fairy-tales, aliens and great white whales
And I believed in you
I believed the oracle, the crystal ball, the fortunes told
I thought the writing was on the wall
In wizardry, in fantasy and legends born upon the seas
I believed it all
It's easier to make-believe than have to face what you deceive
It's easier to stem the tide than have to put up with your lies
It's easier to fade away than have to face another day
Believing in you
I believed my Mom knew best and a monster lurks deep in Loch Ness
I always wished upon a star
And I believed in lucky charms, tarot cards and unicorns
I believed in you
It's easier to make-believe than have to face what you deceive
It's easier to stem the tide than have to put up with your lies
It's easier to fade away than have to face another day
Believing in you
I believed in innocence, honesty and sentiments and I believed in you

You're Gorgeous
03:46
|
|

She's four foot two she's got one eye blue and the others green
She's no Beauty Queen nothing special at all
But I think she's gorgeous
She's always up she ain't never down like a circus clown
At times when I'm sad and I need her to be
I think she's gorgeous
But oh oh oh your beauty its there for all to see
And oh oh oh your beauty its there for me
This morning at eight she was oh so late
As she raced down the path she tripped over the gate and she laughed 'til she cried
I think she's gorgeous
She's not a girly-girl in a false tan world
She'd rather stay right at home baking cupcakes and creams that Heaven has sent
I think she's gorgeous
But oh oh oh your beauty its there for all to see
And oh oh oh your beauty its there for me
I'm not saying that she's the cream of the crop
But she is what she is if you like her or not
Because beauty's skin deep
And I think she's gorgeous
But oh oh oh your beauty its there for all to see
And oh oh oh your beauty its there for me
She's four foot two she's got one eye blue and the others green
She's no Beauty Queen nothing special at all
But I think she's gorgeous

Lady Summer

Lady Summer, call me on your breeze
It's been a long lonely winter
Through which I've dreamed
Here beside you, I'm as happy as can be
Welcome home my lover
My fantasy
It seems with you
The days are long and the days are true
You cast your colour in a million ways
And I won't cry
I'll just sit right here in your morning light
Until you fade away
Lady Summer, won't you stay a while?
For the nights grow colder
As time slips by
It seems with you
The days are long and the days are true
You cast your colour in a million ways
And I won't cry
I'll just sit right here in your morning light
Until you fade away
Lady Summer, don't fade away
Don't fade away
Don't fade away...

Uptown Magic Woman
04:40
|
|
||
Well I don't mind so if you don't mind, then I don't really mind at all
I can live my life on the other side and I'm proud enough to take the call
I can't justify my existence I'm old but I've a need for speed
And I'm only bound by make-believe
Now She's so smart by a half as much She's got pictures in magazines
She was born and raised with a feather like touch
And She's evidently met the Queen
She's as pure as a driven snow flake got more heart than any man could feel
And She's only bound by her Daddy's will
She's an uptown magic woman I'm a downtown magic man
You're living in a world that's pure devotion
And I'm living in a world that's pure demand
The clock ticks round to the 4 am and I'm just about to climb the walls
I've got a nagging pain in the back of my head
And its asking me to face it all
Will you follow in your Mother's footsteps?
Will your Daddy let you break the mould?
Or will you always do just what you're told
She's an uptown magic woman I'm a downtown magic man
She's living in a world that's pure devotion
And I'm living in a world that's pure demand
You see my little magic woman has a foothold over me
She's took the whole of my life and brought me a misery
Magic woman come on find me a little more steel yeah
And take the whole of my life and free me the misery yeah
She's an uptown magic woman I'm a downtown magic man
She's living in a world that's pure devotion
And I'm living in a world that's pure demand

Where We Were Friends
03:56
|
|
||
Take me on a journey somewhere away from here
Book me on the early train and pay my rent arrears
There's a chance that in the morning I'll awake without a tear
'Til then I'll raise a glass or two in Kingston Town
Where we were friends
I fall in to the whiskey world but the bottle's wearing thin
I'm seeing my reflection it confirms the state I'm in
But still I fool around with some girl I found
I took her home and done my thing
But all she could do was remind me of you
And Kingston Town where we were friends
Sitting on a Northern bound with a bag full of German beer
The question going round and a round
Of how it is that I've wound up here
I'm trying to understand how the things we planned
Were thrown away for your career
And all I can do is escape from you and Kingston Town
Where we were friends, where we were friends
Where we were friends, where we were friends
Where we were friends

Rescue Me
05:01
|
|
||
There's an old nightclub by a seaside town
But the dance floor's empty its been long shutdown
If you listen carefully you'll hear that music play
But oh the great summer of 1985
With your flushed red cheeks and your dark brown eyes
I can still see you standing there
In that chequers dress
And she would rescue me with kisses
She would rescue me with love
She would take away my teenage heart
And furnish it with hope
now I know that you shouldn't compromise
And I know it don't make sense
But Paula would you rescue me
I hope to God you take that chance
As you lead the way let me feel you're mine
Let me dance with you 'til the end of time
And if darkness ever falls this knight will shine for you
And she would rescue me with kisses
She would rescue me with love
She would take away this foolish heart
And furnish it with hope
now I know that you shouldn't compromise
And I know it don't make sense
But Paula would you rescue me
I hope to God you take that chance
She would rescue me with kisses
She would rescue me with love
She would take away my foolish heart
And furnish it with hope
now I know as you're spinning me round and round
I know this don't make sense
But Paula would you rescue me
I hope to God you take that chance
Yeah I hope to God you take that chance

My Mother's Smile
04:56
|
|
||
On a cold night in the middle of February,
I could hear her scooter engine getting near.
With her shopping by her side, she wore her uniform with pride.
She was thirty-five years old when my Father left me.
I carried her bags into the kitchen.
She made boiled eggs with soldiers for our tea.
She asked me "how was school?" and was my knitted jumper cool?
I switched on the black and white TV.
Then she smiled like she had never smiled before.
She smiled like never before.
We were freezing and busted, in our lives she trusted,
That's why she smiled like never before.
Mum I understand you fought the devil.
Mum I understand you fought for me.
And Mum I understand, why you never threw away your hand.
And why you smile like never before.
Three years ago she beat her cancer.
Three years ago he was by her side.
We should all move to the sea. He said to aid her recovery.
But it turned out he was nearer his fantasy.
But still she smiled like never before.
She smiled like never before.
We were freezing and busted, in our lives she trusted,
That's why she smiled like never before.
She smiled like never before.
She smiled like never before.
